UI/UX Design
Research-informed design grounded in usability principles, not aesthetic preferences alone.
Overview
Design decisions at Stripe Systems are driven by user research and usability data, not personal taste or trend-chasing. Every design engagement begins with understanding who the users are, what tasks they need to accomplish, and where current interfaces create friction.
Our process starts with stakeholder interviews and, where possible, direct user research — contextual inquiry, task analysis, and review of existing analytics data (heatmaps, session recordings, funnel drop-off points). This research produces user personas and journey maps that inform information architecture and interaction design decisions.
Wireframing in Figma establishes layout, content hierarchy, and navigation patterns before visual design begins. Interactive prototypes allow stakeholders and test users to evaluate task flows and identify usability issues early — when changes cost minutes, not days. We conduct moderated usability tests with 5-8 participants per round, following Nielsen Norman Group methodology, iterating on findings before development begins.
Visual design builds on wireframe-validated layouts, applying typography, color, spacing, and component styling consistent with your brand guidelines. We create design systems — documented component libraries in Figma with corresponding code implementations in Storybook — ensuring consistency across pages and reducing design-to-development handoff friction.
Interaction design covers micro-interactions (loading states, form validation feedback, transitions) that communicate system status and guide users through workflows. Accessibility is designed in from the start: sufficient color contrast, readable font sizes, focus indicators for keyboard navigation, and touch targets sized for mobile use.
Design deliverables include annotated Figma files with responsive breakpoints, component specifications with exact spacing and color tokens, and interactive prototypes for developer reference. We remain involved during development to review implementation fidelity.
